Wild Hills of Wanaka

Travel beyond the farm gate for an insight into life on one of Lake Wanaka’s working high country farms. Begin your adventure with a 4WD journey following a farm track to a stunning view point high above Lake Wanaka. Stop made along the way for a short walk where your personal guide will introduce you to many of the local native plants common to the area and give you an insight to the human/natural history of this unique region.

Upon reaching the highest point in the adventurei enjoy a stroll along a ridgeline or simply sit back in the tussock grass with a freshly brewed coffee and tasty freshly-baked treats while taking in the stunning views of Lakes Wanaka/Hawea the Cardrona Valley, and the majestic Southern Alps.

Twilight in the Tussocks

Designed to capture the essence of twilight and grandure in this incredible environment. This is an early evening adventure unlike any other, a 'must-do' for romantics and those wanting to see the Wanaka region as you have never seen it before.

Travel by 4WD vehicle to an incredible viewpoint high above Lake Wanaka. Open a bottle of your favourite Central Otago Pinot and sit back in our comfortable deck-chairs with our tasty cheese platter, take in the changing light as the setting sun casts a myriad of shadows and colour changes over the Southern Alps and Lake Wanaka far below.

We provide wine glasses, a tasty local cheese platter, locally roasted Venus coffee, a selection of teas and bottled mineral water. You provide the wine.

Pick up at 5:30pm from your accommodation and returning approx 1 ½ - 2 hours later.

Mt Alpha Heli-hike

Heli-hiking offers you the ideal way to experience New Zealand's mountains in a short period of time, accessing terrain available to very few people. Reward yourself with an unforgettable alpine experience.

Your adventure begins with a helicopter flight from Wanaka airport to a ridge high above Lake Wanaka.  Breathe in the clear alpine air amidst the majesty and solitude of the mountains as your private guide leads you on a 2-2 1/2 hours hike down the ridgeline.  Stunning views of Lakes Wanaka/Hawea the Cardrona Valley and the snow-capped Southern Alps surround you.  

Frequent stops made along the way for photos and simply just to sit, relax and take in the magesty of this incredible environment.  You will be collected at the end of the hike by 4wd vehicle and descend down through a working high country sheep farm back to your accommodation. 

This adventure is a must if you love hiking but not climbing mountains, let the helicopter do all the hard work for you!

How fit do you need to be?

You need to be of average fitness and used to down-hill hiking with a small backpack. The hiking is all downhill with majority on a well graded farm track. The first 45 minutes hiking is however off-track therfore due care necessary. Hiking boots not shoes recommended- boots can be hired. If unusure if this trip is you than please just ask.
